GCSE Success: The John Roan School Celebrates Remarkable Achievements

The John Roan School is delighted to celebrate the exceptional achievements of our Year 11 students as they receive their GCSE results today. Their hard work, resilience, and dedication have paid off, marking a significant milestone in their academic journeys.

This year, 54% of our students achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and Maths, with 34% reaching grade 5 or higher in these core subjects. Our History department also had an outstanding year, with 40% of students securing a grade 7 or above, reflecting our firm commitment to academic excellence across all areas of study.
Among the standout performers, we are incredibly proud of:
  • Alfie, who achieved an impressive ten grade 9s, will continue his studies in our sixth form.
  • India, who earned ten grades 8s or above, showcasing her exceptional dedication.
  • Lilly secured nine grades  8s or above, reflecting her consistent hard work.
  • Ting Ting and Jae’da, who both achieved eight grades 7s or above, set a high standard for their peers.
We are also celebrating the incredible progress made by students who have overcome significant challenges, including those who joined our school from Ukraine. Special recognition goes to India, Ida, Jae’da, Fabian, Shalina, and Nika for their determination and resilience.
Principal Cath Smith expressed her pride: "I am incredibly proud of our Year 11 students. Their character, determination, and work ethic have been truly inspirational. These results are a testament to the strength of our school community, and we look forward to building on this success in the new academic year."
Looking ahead, many of our Year 11 students will be returning to join our Sixth Form, where they will continue to receive the support and guidance needed to achieve their future aspirations. This success follows the achievements of our Year 13 students, who secured places at top UK universities, including Cambridge and Imperial College London.
Today, we celebrate the results and the journey each student has taken to reach this point. We are excited to see what the future holds for these talented young people as they grow and excel.
Congratulations to all our students—your future is bright!
