John Roan School's Basketball Academy recently hosted ex-NBA player Ryan Richards and coaches from Alma University (USA), who visited to observe two of their recruits, Carlos W. and Joshua O. The visitors were very pleased with what they saw, both on and off the court, reflecting the high standards of the programme under Coach Courtney's leadership.
Coach Courtney's basketball journey is a story of passion and perseverance. He was capped for England at 16 and received a scholarship to study in America at 18. From 20 to 29, he played professionally, achieving a string of successes, including National Cup winner, National Trophy champion twice, Division 1, 2, and 3 titles, an honourable mention on the all-British NBL team in 2014/15, BUCS champion twice, and BBL Trophy champion.
Now, Coach Courtney has been selected for the final 12 of the GB Men's 35+ squad and will travel to Italy to compete in the European Championships at the end of June. His success continues to inspire the young athletes at John Roan School, showing them that hard work and dedication can lead to remarkable achievements.
