The John Roan School

At The John Roan School we are relentless in our pursuit of excellence. We aim to ignite ambition in every student through teaching that empowers and inspires; a calm and disruption-free learning environment; and a strong character education programme

We are ambitious as well as inclusive, welcoming young people from all backgrounds, all faiths, and all abilities. Every learner is able to achieve their best in an environment that stretches and challenges them to do what they think they cannot, to persist, to work hard and aim for excellence.

Through our curriculum we empower pupils to understand and shape the world around them, as well as achieve great academic results.  Literacy and mastery of language are at the heart of our approach.  We have a whole school reading programme exposing all pupils to thousands of words a year that they may otherwise not encounter. We use technologies to support effective learning both in the classroom and at home, supplying chromebooks for independent study.

We develop the whole person not just the mind.  Our students have opportunities to lead and to serve their local community.  Sports, music and the arts are key components of our curriculum.

Through the John Roan Foundation, students have access to our extensive playing fields, an outdoor education centre, Scholarship Programme, free music lessons and much more. We enjoy very close community links through our award-winning Parent-Teacher Association, the JRSA.

Our highly skilled inclusion team and designated staff in the Centre for Autism provide personalised learning, training and support where it is needed.
